TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Well-known Indonesian designers would showcase Muslim fashions in Contemporary Muslim Fashions Exhibition in de Young Museum, Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, the U.S. starting September 22, 2018, to January 6, 2019. The designers include Dian Pelangi, Khanaan, Itang Yunasz, Rani Hatta, NurZahra, and IKYK.
The exhibition would be further held in Frankfurt Angewandte Kunst in 2019. A total of 53 countries would join the event to promote their fashion characteristics.
“It is a big honor. This [the event] is an appreciation for the great Muslim fashion in the world. Indonesia also has a strong characteristic in Muslim fashion,” said Itang Yunasz in Harlequin Bistro, South Jakarta, Monday, September 17.
The exhibition was curated by Jill D’Alessandro, Laura L Camerlengo, and Professor Reina Lewis of London College of Fashion as curator consultant. Each designer would display 2-3 selected fashions during the exhibition.
Dian Pelangi and Itang Yunasz said they have met the curators since two years ago. The six selected designers would promote Indonesian culture and motives. “Indonesia will show more lively fashions, exposing motives. Our country has many cultures and that probably the interesting element,” Dian Pelangi said.
