TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Provincial Government and Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) have finally agreed to raise the bonus for the 2018 Asian Games athletes. The decision was made during the meeting of the budget committee (Banggar).
“A single gold medalist will earn Rp750 million from previously set at Rp300 million,” said Jakarta Sports and Youth Agency head Ratiyono today, September 12.
Ratiyono added the hike bonus would also affect the silver and bronze medalist, either athlete of the couple or team category. But he has not yet detailed the amount.
According to Ratiyono, the city administration sent a total of 186 athletes in the 2018 Asian Games and 11 of them collected gold medals, 13 athletes got silver medals, and 22 athletes bagged bronze medals.

In addition, the Jakarta administration would give a pocket money for other athletes who did not win a medal. “Rp10 million per athlete,” he added.
Ratiyono mentioned the total bonus for athletes in 2018 Asian Games worth Rp30 to 35 billion and so he would ask Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to revise the Gubernatorial Decree No. 1203 of 2018.
The decree noted a gold medalist would receive Rp300 million, silver Rp150 million, and bronze Rp90 million.
Meanwhile, DPRD deputy speaker Triwisaksana, who was also the Banggar meeting leader, appreciated the bonus increase for Asian Games athletes. He said it would motivate the athletes to win in other competitions. “The nearest target is to be the overall champion in PON (National Games) and so the athletes will not move to other regions,” he said.
