TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several names for the position of Jakarta Deputy Governor emerges right after Sandiaga Uno officially announced his vice presidential candidacy on Friday, August 10.
The replacement would be decided by two political parties supporting Anies Baswedan-Sandiaga Uno pair in the 2017 gubernatorial election which were Gerindra and PKS.
The would-be candidates were West Java PKS chair Ahmad Syaikhu and PKS cadre Mardani Ali Sera. The supports towards Ahmad Syaikhu were thrown since he posted a photo with Sandiaga Uno on his Instagram account, early Friday, August 10. The photo caption read “Ready to support the replacement of Deputy Governor.”
Meanwhile, the name of Mardani Ali Sera was brought up by PKS deputy secretary-general Abdul Hakim. “Yes, he is one of the candidates,” said Abdul Hakim on Friday.
Gerindra’s Jakarta Regional chair Muhammad Taufik said his party and PKS would suggest two names to Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) as the city's deputy governor. Each party planned to recommend one candidate. “Voting will be held later,” said the DPRD deputy.
Muhammad Taufik mentioned Gerindra and PKS have yet established talks on the succession to Sandiaga Uno. However, he could also propose himself to be the next Jakarta Deputy Governor. “It’s allowed,” he said in the City Hall.
