TEMPO.CO, Bangkok - China is set to mobilize 20,000 supporters for the upcoming 2018 Asian Games that will be held in Jakarta and Palembang.

“Perhaps there will be more than 20,000 Chinese supporters arriving,” said Indonesian Ambassador for China Djauhari Oratmangun in a written statement on Thursday, August 9.

Temporary reports suggest that China will send 1,000 to 1,500 athletes and officials for the Asian Games.

“China is determined to be the champion which is why they sent as many athletes, officials, and supporters,” said Djauhari. The team will be led by a special representation directly appointed by President Xi Jinping.

“The Chinese groups that are not free of visa will be affected by the zero rupiah visa on arrival policy,” said Beijing’s Indonesian Ambassador’s Immigration’s Attache Tato J. Hidayawan.

The 2018 Asian Games will be held in Jakarta and Palembang from its opening day on August 18 to September 2.
