TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of the Information Data Center and Public Relations of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho noted that there had been 227 eruptions of Mount Anak Krakatau since August 3.
“The eruption has taken place from the crater of Mount Anak Krakatau, throwing ashes, sands and incandescent lava with a column height of 100-200 meters,” Sutopo said on Sunday, August 5.
According to Sutopo, the eruption was heard until Serang and Lampung. Even so, the situation observed to be relatively safe because of the danger zone in a radius of only 2 kilometers. As for status, Mount Anak Krakatau is still at level 2 or alert.
“Outside that distance, it is safe, people can enjoy the throwing incandescent rocks and the sensation of eruptions outside the radius of 2 kilometers, don’t be afraid," said Sutopo.’
PVMBG will continue to monitor the volcanic activity. Even though hundreds of eruptions per day, the status is still not increased because it is not dangerous.
“The important thing is that the community does not conduct activities within a radius of 1 kilometer from the summit of the crater of Mount Anak Krakatau. BNPB, BPBD, and administration officials will definitely take steps to take measures if the condition endangers the community,” he said.
