TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Upon welcoming the Tanah Lot Festival, 300 core dancers participates in the Nunas Pasupati ritual at the Pura Pengayengan in Tanah Lot, Tabanan.
“The Nunus Pasupati is part of the preparation towards the Tanah Lot Festival,” said Tabanan Regent and Bali’s first female Regent, Ni Putu Eka Wirayastuti in a written statement yesterday.
The festival itself is set to be held on August 18, Wirayastuti said that the rehearsal on August 15 will involve 1,800 participants. “It is more of a Nuna Pasupati than a rehearsal,” said Wirayastuti.
The festival will feature the Ratu Rejang Segara dance that is a dance of gratitude to the Segara Queen. The dance urges humans to remind each other that life comes from the motherland.
The Regent further said that the dance is an expression of affection and gratitude towards the motherland for taking care of the living without being asked to.
The 300 dancers of the Nunas Pasopati will be tasked to teach thousands of Rejang Sandat Ratu Segara dancers spread across 10 districts in Tabanan, which mostly consists of elementary, junior-high, and high-school students.
