TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo expressed his faith that the Light Rail Transit (LRT) train could boost the Indonesian export and contractor partnerships in the future.

“We will see it later after this LRT in Palembang, followed by Jakarta, Bandung, then Surabaya and Medan, so why not (to export the train),” said the president today, July 13, while inspecting the LRT trial at Jakabaring Sports City, Palembang, South Sumatra.

According to Jokowi, Indonesia is already recognized in the export of rail transport, including to Bangladesh and the Philippines. He added Indonesia could also offer partnership in the construction of LRT poles.

“We’ve discussed it yesterday, and I’ve heard from president directors of Waskita and PT Inka that LRT Palembang is the cheapest compared to those in other countries’,” Jokowi said.

The president further asserted that the quality of Indonesian railway products could compete with those of other countries.

Jokowi also lauded the construction of LRT Palembang facilities, which were mostly made by Indonesian workers. “Ninety percent of LRT Palembang is done by the country’s best, such as the train and the construction process, except for the machine, which is purchased from Bombardier Germany,” he explained.
