TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Responding to the arising information of a possible parole, Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno expressed his interest upon meeting currently jailed and former Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnomo as soon as Ahok is freed.
“I would like to ask many questions as soon as [Ahok] is able to be reached,” said the deputy governor at City Hall on Wednesday, July 11. Depending on the situation, Ahok will be eligible for parole in August of 2018.
Asked what Sandiaga plans to discuss with his former rival in the 2017 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election, Sandiaga revealed that he plans to ask questions related to several policies that Ahok introduced during his days in the office.
“I would like to cross check his basic thinking and philosophy behind several of his policies,” said Sandiaga Uno.
The Deputy Governor revealed that he had always intended to pay Ahok a visit in prison ever since the former governor was imprisoned on May 9, 2017. Unfortunately, Sandiaga’s intentions were hampered by the lack of consent from Ahok’s family.
Sandiaga Uno further said that he still wants to conduct the visit if Ahok is finally open for visitations. Uno also asked for Ahok to be informed of his request if possible. The issue of Ahok and the possibility of his parole in August was first heard from his sister-turned-lawyer Fifi Letty Indra.
