2018 Homecoming Records Lower Accidents

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian said that the number of traffic accident number during this year's homecoming period has dropped by 32 percent compared to last year. Up until one day before Eid Al-Fitr, the police recorded a total of 899 accidents.

"Last year the number is 1,319 accidents," Tito said the South Jakarta Metro Police on Thursday, June 14, 2018. Tito asserted that the main cause of accidents were unwary drivers and violation of the speed limit.

Motorcycles were recorded as the vehicle with the highest number of involvement in accidents during the 2018 homecoming period. The Police recorded 307 motorcycles were involved in accidents along the homecoming route, while another 996 motorcycles were involved in accidents outside homecoming routes.

Based on Police records, the number of fatalities in accidents was also dropped by 59 percent this year. This year, 193 motorists were killed in accidents. Meanwhile, 478 motorists were recorded dead in accidents in the same period last year.

Chief of the Information Division of the Public Relation Bureau of the Public Relation Division of the National Police Sr. Commr. Yusri Yunus, said that the Police have ticketed 28,236 motorists. "The Police had also warned 39,371 others," Yunus said.
