Furthermore, Rahmat said that the six earthquakes happened at 06:46 (5.5 SR), 09:07 (5.6 SR), 09:34 (3.5 SR), 13:17 (3.4 SR), 13:59 (5.6 SR), and 14:15 (4.1 SR).

The aftershocks at Mentawai Islands is a direct effect of the 5.9 SR tectonic earthquake that hit the region at 06:08. According to BMKG, the location of the earthquake was 90 kilometers West of Tua Pejat City, at 2.0 south latitude and 98.76 East longitude at the depth of 13 kilometers.

According to Rahmat, the earthquake can be considered to be a shallow earthquake and can be felt at the Tua Pejat region, Mentawai, and Padang. Furthermore, BMKG spokesman Harry Djatmiko said that the earthquake will not cause a tsunami and called for members of the public to stay calm.
