TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A former terrorist convict who is now an analyst of terrorism, Ali Fauzi Manzi, stated that the Surabaya bombing on Sunday, May 13, as a miftahus shirok or conflict trigger. By detonating bombs in Surabaya, it is expected to also be done in other cities since Surabaya is a big city.

“And they managed to do it in Riau, it turned out that the miftahus shirok they want is in Pekanbaru,” said Ali in the LIPI discussion with the theme `Breaking the Chain of Terrorism; Is it Possible?` at LIPI office in Jakarta, Thursday, May 17.

Ali said the family of suicide bombers in three churches in Surabaya was a new terrorist network and the police did not aware of their existence.

Among the terrorists, Surabaya is known as a reproduction place for potential terrorists. “How many bombers came from Surabaya? The perpetrators of (bombing cases of) Bali 1, Marriot 1, Marriot 2, Embassy of Australia, came from Surabaya,” he said. But since 2000 Surabaya was not touched by the bomb explosion.

However, this time, the terror attack was quibbled as jihad in their perspective. Ali said the circulating issue among the terrorists of the Mako Brimob riots was not about food, but because of a woman who went through an examination by being stripped to naked.

“They said she was being held. It infuriates the terrorist prisoners."

Ali said one of the bombers in Surabaya, Dita Supriyanto, had links with terrorist prisoners. He was actually a nephew of Sukastopo, who was arrested in late 2002 for his involvement in the Bomb Bali I.

Ali also showed a video call that invited to terror as based on the incident at Mako Brimob. It is a prohibition for the terrorist prisoners at Mako Brimob to make a deal with the police. “Discussions with the police are considered haram by them,” Ali said.
