
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Motor vessel Kuala Mas caught fire in the waters off Thousand Islands Regency on Friday, April 27, 2018, at around 07.55 local time.
Thousand Islands Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Victor Siagian confirmed the news. “Yes, but the fire has been put out,” he said.

Victor said a joint SAR team extinguished the fire at around 10.30 local time, and that the team was still examining the victims and collecting their data.
He added he had yet to receive any report on the victims’ data nor the cause of the accident, but ensured all the 18 crew members of the vessel survived. “There is neither casualty nor death toll,” he said.

The vessel’s crewmen were slated to be transported to Tanjung Priok port authority office. Victor said according to reports the incident took place around Nirwana Island, Bidadari Island, and Kelor Island.
Earlier, a motor vessel caught light Monday, with an explosion heard prior to the fire. The boat, which was operating free of charge, was carrying students from Thousand Islands Regency.
