TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), there will be a 33-34 degree Celsius temperature increase during the equinox phenomenon on March 23.
“The air temperature will increase especially during the day when the sun is at its most vertical angle at around 12:00 p.m.,” said BMKG deputy of meteorology Rahadi Prabowo Mulyono in Jakarta today.
Rahadi explained that the sun’s position will be at the equator and will reach a culmination point where the temperature would increase. “It will tend to be warmer than the usual days,” he said.
Equinox is one of many natural astronomy phenomena where the sun passes through the equator periodically twice in a year in March and September.
However, the equinox phenomenon will not always cause a drastic rise in temperature and are different to the commonly heard heat wave that usually happens throughout a longer period of time in the African continent and in the Middle East.
