TEMPO.CO, Pontianak - In the Singkawang Cap Go Meh Festival 2018, a lantern parade will be held on Wednesday night, February 28. Singkawang Mayor will be present along with the head of SKPD, BUMN, BUMD, and students.
To enliven the parade, the committee will also perform nine dragons made by Santo Yosep Singkawang Group who broke the MURI record this year.
Head of Singkawang Police Traffic Unit, Adjunct Commissioner Priyanto, said there is no particular traffic diversion on this Lantern Parade. “It's because people come to this event by cars or other vehicles. The only pedestrian will be drum band participants and nine dragon carrier," he said.

While the parade route, he explained, will start from Mayor Singkawang Office to Jalan Firdaus, Jalan Pangeran Diponegoro, Jalan Niaga, Jalan Budi Utomo, and Jalan Nusantara. After the lantern parade, Jalan Pangeran Diponegoro from Singkawang to Pontianak will be closed as there is a 120-meters Honorary Stage for VVIP, VIP, and tribune for invited guests to enjoy the Cap Go Meh Festival. "While the street from Pontianak to Singkawang will be opened as usual," he added.
The Santo Yosep Singkawang Group chairman Bong Sin Fo said on Wednesday morning that MURI will hand a certificate for breaking the record on bringing the most dragons (9 dragons), then followed by the eye-opening ritual of nine dragons at Tri Dharma Bumi Raya temple (Pekong city center) Singkawang.
"After the eye-opening ritual, the nine dragons will be drawn to the temple near the banyan tree and GM. Situt Street," he said.
