TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) admitted his dissatisfaction towards the performance of Indonesia`s exports.

He asked the Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita to evaluate the government’s attempt at improving the country’s trade value.

Jokowi compared Indonesia’s export value that is still behind neighboring ASEAN countries. Last year, exports valued rose up to US$145 billion, which is still behind Thailand with US$231 billion, Malaysia (US$184 billion), and Vietnam (US$160 billion).

He continued that the Ministry of Trade is responsible for the country’s export performance.

Jokowi assessed the importance of investments and exports, which he said are the two factors that can drive Indonesia’s economic growth.

“It is about how we can increase investments and exports. That's it, nothing else,” said the President.
