TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As many as 6,500 participants took part in Mandiri Jogja Marathon 2017 that began and ended in Prambanan temple on Sunday (23/4).
Among those participants, 1,075 people joined fullmarathon race (42K), 1,660 people joined half marathon race (21.1K), 1.535 people took part in the 10K marathon, and 1,940 people joined the 5K race.
In the race, the participants went across 13 villages and temples.
The temples which they will come across are Prambanan, Plaosan Lor, Kidul Plaosan, Sewu, Bubrah, Lumbung. The marathon route will return back again to Prambanan temple.
"In addition to a sport event, we expect this event can attract as many tourists as possible to Yogyakarta," Mandiri President Director Kartika Wirjoatmodjo said.
Kartika recognizes great potential in sport tourism in Yogyakarta and plans to continue to hold the race in cooperation with Yogyakarta Tourism Agency in the following years.
She explained that Mandiri Jogja Marathon (MJM) 2017 is on a trial stage. She targets the number of participants in the following year to reach 10.000-15.000 participants.
