
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of the Criminal Investigation Agency, General Commissioner Ari Dono Sukmanto reveals that the investigation on the alleged blasphemy case conducted by Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama is almost done. “(It’s) nearly 70 percent complete,” Ari said on Wednesday, November 23, 2016.
According to Ari, investigators only questioned a number of experts who were previously questioned in the initial inquiry. The rest can be presented in court later on.
Up until today, Ari said, police have questioned 27 witnesses. Earlier there were 40 witnesses and experts questioned in the investigation throughout October-November.
Ari expects that the investigators would already hand over the case files to the Attorney General’s prosecutors on Friday this week. According to him, Police has coordinated with the Attorney General. “We’ve coordinated (with each other) since the beginning, hopefully (the case files) doesn’t go back and forth again,” Ari said. “We hope for an immediate P21.”
Indonesia National Police, Criminal Investigation Agency named Ahok as a suspect on November 16. He allegedly violated an article that regulates defamation on religion, Penal Code Article 156a. Ahok himself has been questioned as a suspect since Tuesday, November 22, 2016.
