
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At least four people were killed and 41 others were injured when a speedboat was caught fire in West Halmahera on Saturday (15/10) at 2:45 local time.
The speedboat named Bintang Fajar was departing from Jailolo seaport in West Halmahera was bound for Ternate.
Head of Ternate resort police Adj. Comr. Kamal Baktiar said that the incident happened in waters between Ternate and Jailolo, or 10 nautical miles from Ternate island.
It was alleged that the fire was caused by sparks from one of the machines that was broken.
The sparks then spread to the fuel tank and in a short it time, the fire engulfed the whole boat.
“We are trying to evacuate those who survive,” Kala said on Saturday.
