TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said he will build flats for fishermen living in North Jakarta beach, which is subjected to land reclamation.

“We will build flats for fishermen including a port outside Cakung. We will also build a levee across Cilincing and build another flats for fishermen,” Ahok said Tuesday evening at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry office building, Central Jakarta.

Ahok could not recall the number of the flat units, but he said it would be enough to accomodate thousands of fishermen.

Earlier, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said he will resume land reclamation in North Jakarta beach.

“We have arrived at a provisional conclusion that there is no reason for us not to resume reclamation in North Jakarta beach,” Luhut said after a meeting on reclamation in the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry office building in Central Jakarta.

He said that he has received inputs in connection with the reclamation project from the Environmental Affairs and Forestry Ministry, state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero), the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Jakarta administration, Marine Affairs and Fishery Ministry and Transportation Ministry.
