TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi said Indonesia has proposed an exemption for short stay visas to European countries with Schengen-visa for Indonesian citizens. The proposal has been conveyed to the European Union foreign affairs representative Federica Mogherini during the sidelines of ASEAN Foreign Affairs Minister and European Union (ASEM) meeting currently being held in Luxembourg.

The meeting talks about the early process committed by European Union in response to Indonesia’s proposal on the Schengen-visa exemption, Counsellor for the Indonesian Embassy in Brussel Riaz J.P. Saehu told Antara on Thursday, November 5.

The European Commission reportedly have enlisted Indonesia in the list of countries proposed to be reviewed by the European Council (EC).  The proposal will be conveyed to the EC at the start of 2016.

Retno said Indonesia continues to strive through the European Commission and the European countries itself.

The meeting also discusses on the implementation agreement of FLEGT-VPA Indonesia-European Union which is expected by the Indonesian government to be applied by the end of 2015.

Mogherini also expects Indonesian President Jokowi would visit the headquarter of European Union in Brussel.

The European Union have identified Asia and Indonesia as a region and partnering countries where the bilateral relations will be promoted.

The European Union sees Indonesia as key to advancing regional and global cooperation, said Retno.
