TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Taskforce for Anti-Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing announced its analysis and evaluation results of ships owned by 30 fishing companies on Sunday, July 5, 2015.
To this date, the Maritime and Fisheries Ministry has revoked fishing operation permits owned by 15 companies and fishing permit documents of 30 ships owned by fishing companies.
Head of the taskforce Mas Achmad Santosa explained that the Ministry would cooperate with the Interpol to hunt down ships operating outside Indonesian waters without proper documents and approvals.
“The Maritime and Fisheries Ministry will use facilities offered by Interpol to hunt down [the ships] or to impose notices,” Achmad said in a press release on Sunday, July 5, 2015.
The Ministry had also cooperated with the National Police, the Attorney General’s Office, the Navy and the Maritime Security Board (Bakamla) by forming a team to address illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing activities. The team will also calculate the losses suffered by the state due to the illegal fishing activities.
“Indonesia, represented by the Maritime and Fisheries Ministry and the AGO, could file a lawsuit against those who are responsible for the state losses,” he said.
