TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama called on Jakarta water company PD PAM Jaya to acquire PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya this year. Ahok said that he is expecting the acquisition to be completed in June this year.
Earlier, the Jakarta administration planned to acquire Palyja’s stocks through PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro). However, the People’s Coalition against Privatization of Jakarta Water (KMMSAJ) rejected the idea and asked PD PAM Jaya to acquire Palyja.
“We accepted their aspiration,” Ahok said.
Jakarta regional secretary Saefullah set a number of terms for Palyja over the acquisition, including a requirement to fix all leaking pipes. According to Saefullah, the non-revenue water level could reach 40 percent. Saefullah added that after Palyja’s acquisition is completed, he will restructure PD Pam Jaya’s board of directors.
“The goal is to see whether they are able to manage a growing business,” he said.
PD PAM Jaya president director Sriwidayanto Kaderi said that he will conduct an evaluation before deciding to acquire Palyja. Sriwidiyanto explained that PD PAM Jaya will acquire 100 percent of Palyja’s stocks, comprising 51 percent owned by Suez Environment Asia and 49 percent owned by PT Astratel.
