TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) said that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo must take responsibility for the apprehension of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chief Bambang Widjojanto.
"The President must take a stance and save KPK from any forms of opposition and impairment," said ICW on Friday, January 23, 2015.
ICW considers the apprehension of Bambang as a counterattack from Polri after Com. Gen. Budi Gunawan was named as a graft suspect.
Meanwhile, the National Police had been accussed of hindering law enforcement and corruption eradication because the arrest of Bambang may hamper the investigation of Budi Gunawan's examination. Public opinion that the Police does not favor corruption eradication is also growing.
"This criminalization is an attempt to weaken KPK," said ICW.
