TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Transportation Ministry has adjusted public transportation tariffs in light of the government's decision to increase fuel prices by Rp2,000 per liter.
According to Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan, the maximum increase in the tariffs is 10 percent.
Jonan said the tariff hike was based on aspects of transportation business sustainability and the public’s purchasing power.
“Therefore, [public transportation] operators will not suffer losses, while considering the public’s purchasing power,” Jonan said on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at his office.
According to Jonan, the Transportation Ministry is authorized to adjust the tariff of intercity and interprovincial transportation services (AKAP). Meanwhile, the tariff of intercity and intra-province transportation services (AKDP) is to be adjusted by governors.
Although the tariff adjustment is set by different institutions, Jonan called on related institutions to follow the government recommendation. Acting Land Transportation director general Sugiharto said he had prepared a letter for governors and mayors regarding the recommendation on the tariff adjustments.
