TEMPO.CO, Batam - Bank Indonesia will issue new banknotes on August 17, 2014, the same date with Indonesia's Independence Day comemmoration.
"The new banknotes will be introduced and will have entered Automated Teller Machine [ATM]," said BI Deputy Governor Ronald Waas as quoted from Antara on Thursday, June 19, 2014.
Ronald, however, did not say the the amount of the new denominations as he is yet to receive confirmation on the matter.
The new banknotes will have "Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia (NKRI)" written on them, replacing the current "Bank Indonesia".
The new banknotes will still have the same denominations like the current denominations, will still have pictures of national figures, and were claimed to be harder to be counterfeited.
