TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Samuel A. Pangerapan, Chairman of the Indonesia Internet Service Provider Association (APJII), accused the Communication and Information Technology Ministry (Ministry) of being arrogant for blocking video sharing website, Vimeo. He added that the ministry misused its authority without consulting with other concerned parties, such as the elements of the public and related businesses.
"[The ministry] used its authority without prior notice, suddenly blocking the website," he told Tempo on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, saying that not all contents in Vimeo contains pornographic materials. He said that the ministry should instead block other adult-content websites, instead of Vimeo.
"All adult websites must be blocked.... The ministry has to be consistent," he said.
Moreover, he accused the Ministry of not being transparent to public on blocking a website. Therefore, he suggested that a content advisory board, which consists of the elements from the government, public, and businesses, should be established. Thus, defining porn is not merely dominated by a particular official in rank.
