TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of young curators in Yogyakarta had been chosen by a foreign visual artist to express their curatorial opinions on 15 videos in a small discussion at Cemeti Art House Yogyakarta last Saturday. Those curators were Grace Samboh, Mira Asriningtyas and Pitra Hutomo.
The videos are an art project held by visual artist Kristoffer Ardena, who lives and works in Oviedo and Madrid and likes to travel. The project consisted of 15 videos, made by artists across the United States, Europe and Asia.
Some of the videos are How to Save Six Euros by Javier Cruz (Spain), A Fossilized Moment of Doubt by Guston Sonding-Kung (US), Tracing Trades by Jane Jin Kaisen (Denmark), Robbing and Meg’s Spectacular Sweden and Norway Adventure by Robbins Barstow (US), dan Sunday (E)scapes by Dada Docot (Philippines/Canada).
Kristoffer also invited curators from various countries to write their curatorial opinions.
On his website, Kristoffer wrote the projects as 'in-progress'. Every time he visited a place, the videos were screened, local curators were invited to participate and a series of meetings were held based on the project.
"The discussion is limited," said Nindtyo Adipurnomo, manager of Cemeti Art House, during the discussion. He said those who have not watched would be confused; especially these kind of videos had never been shown in Yogyakarta.
The discussion was moderated by Roy Voragen from Roma Art and attended by Alia Swastika, Art Galerie artistic director, who is also an independent curator.
