TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan said Kuala Namu International Airport in Medan will start operating by July 25 despite some limitations. "Airport services will be transferred to Kuala Namu. The last aircraft will land at Polonia Airport at 23.00 on July 24," said the minister at his office yesterday, July 16.
The minister added that the construction of the road heading to the airport is not completed. However, the Public Works Deputy Minister Hermanto Dardak ensured that the road is sufficient. "Public Works Deputy Minister said the road is sufficient and they continue to work on it," said Dahlan.
Dahlan continued, the use of Kuala Namu Airport has been announced internationally. Therefore, there is no room for rescheduling of the operational time. "Some asked why the plan is not postponed until after Eid al-Fitr celebration. It’s impossible because we have made the international announcement 56 days ago, and after the announced date, Polonia Airport will be taken out from the international list of airports," said the minister.
